EPDM and fibreglass flat roofs in Bungay

We are based at Costessey near Norwich and reach Bungay via the A143, about 6 miles from Beccles. That matters for flat roofing & epdm: it decides how quickly we can inspect, how we get materials on site, and how we sequence work on historic town-centre roofs and Waveney valley cottages.

What happens after you call

  1. Deck inspection

We lift a section to see the deck; nothing is laid over boards that are soft or damp.

  2. Falls and detailing set out

Firrings, outlet positions and upstand heights are agreed before the membrane arrives.

  3. Membrane installation

EPDM, GRP or felt installed with trims and upstands dressed properly at every edge.

  4. Water test and handover

Outlets checked under flow, edges walked, and the finished roof handed over with the system details.

Specification options

Warm-deck insulation build-ups
Insulation above the deck keeps the structure warm and reduces condensation risk compared with old cold-deck details.
Falls and firrings
Firring pieces set the fall so water leaves the roof rather than sitting on it.
Trims, upstands and outlets
Edge trims, correctly formed upstands and adequate outlets — where nearly all flat roof failures actually begin.
EPDM rubber membrane
One-piece rubber for extensions, dormers and garages — no field seams, and it copes well with movement.

Flat Roofing & EPDM FAQs

Is the roof walkable?
GRP takes foot traffic and suits balconies and terraces. EPDM is fine for maintenance access but isn't intended as a walking surface — if you need a usable deck, say so and we'll specify accordingly.
Can you overlay the existing felt?
Only if the deck below is dry and sound, and we'll lift a section to check. Overlaying a soft deck buys a year or two and costs the whole job again.
Why does water sit on our flat roof after rain?
Insufficient fall, a sagging deck or a blocked outlet. On Bungay extensions it's usually falls that were never set properly. We reset falls with firrings rather than lay new membrane over the same puddle.
Can you work on commercial premises around printing works?
Yes — shops, offices, workshops, agricultural and industrial units. Work is scheduled so trading and site access carry on where possible, and larger roofs are quoted with a planned maintenance option if that's more useful than a one-off repair.
Do we need permission from East Suffolk Council?
Most like-for-like roof work doesn't need consent, but listed buildings and conservation areas can. If your property looks like it falls into that, we'll say so at inspection so it's dealt with before work starts.
