Drayton roofing for semis, porches and extensions
Drayton's suburban semi detached houses have gathered decades of flat roof extensions and porches, and those small roofs cause a surprising share of the leaks we are asked about.
A porch or a single storey kitchen extension has only a small area of roof, but it has a lot of edges: a wall abutment, a drip at the front, sometimes a gutter on one side. Each edge is a place where water can get in if the detail was rushed. When a ceiling in a porch starts to stain, the fix is often at the upstand against the house wall rather than in the middle of the roof.
The main roofs on the semis are generally pitched and tiled. The shared ridge with next door means we look at how the two halves meet, and whether repairs on one side have been done in a way that suits the other.
For flat roof replacements we offer EPDM rubber, GRP fibreglass and felt, and we will explain which suits the size and shape of the roof in front of us. On a porch, a one piece rubber membrane with neat trims is often the tidiest result.
If a previous repair on your porch or extension was done with a tin of sealant, we will tell you so. Sealant bought time, but it hides the real fault and usually needs cutting back before a lasting repair can be made. We would rather fix the detail once than return every winter, and that is the approach behind every quote we write for homes in the village.
